Animas River Days 2017 Kicks Off Today
Outdoor recreation in Durango is defined by much more than just skiing during the winter months, and many locals look forward to the annual Animas River Days event just as much as hitting the slopes during the first hard snow each season.
Having got its start back in 1985, Animas River Days is Durango’s only official river festival, and for many who call Durango home year-round, there’s hardly a better way to kick off the summer season.
Along with all sorts of water events and competitions like kayaking, a canoe slalom, and of course the always-popular paddle board/surf competition, Animas River Days also features some pretty awesome live music, a beer garden, food vendors, and a fun-filled festival atmosphere on land that makes its a great experience for people of all ages.
The 2017 Animas River Days festival kicks off today and will run through Saturday June 3rd. And as always, the festival will be capped off on Saturday evening with the Animas River Days Parade, which continues to be a favorite among locals who plan to participate or take it all in over at beautiful Whitewater Park.
