Once your belly is full, it will be time to head over to the “Play It Like a Local” July 4th Parade! The parade begins at 10:00 a.m. and will feature patriotic floats, musicians, horseback riders, and even mountain bikers showing off some stunts.

Fingers are crossed throughout Durango and La Plata County, wishing and willing for the weather to cooperate. For the past two years, fire bans due to drought conditions have forced the city to cancel the 4th of July fireworks show, but hopes are high for fireworks in 2024. 

The planned fireworks show begins at 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, and will feature almost 4,000 shots in total. 

Live Music Performances in the Park

On July 4th in Buckley Park, one of Durango’s best parks, you can enjoy live music performances by various local bands and artists. These talented musicians will showcase a mix of genres, catering to diverse musical tastes. On July 5th, a day of fun and competition awaits at the Durango Beer and Ice Company with a pie-eating contest, perfect for those with a sweet tooth. Later, head back to the La Plata County Fairgrounds & Event Center for the "Red, White, and Bull" riding competition, showcasing some of the area's top bull riders. As the sun sets, Buckley Park invites everyone to unwind with a free movie showing, providing a perfect end to an eventful day.
