What to do in Durango this Labor Day Weekend: 2017 Edition
The Durango community is full of places to get in some outdoor recreation, from fishing the San Juan River to hiking and mountain biking your way through the natural terrain. But, there’s much more to Durango, as evident by just a few of the events planned for the upcoming Labor Day weekend.
Durango Rally- Durango Harley-Davidson
Friday, Sept 1-Sunday, Sept 3
Live music, food vendors and Harleys will all be out in force Friday through Sunday, with much of the weekend centered around the Durango Harley-Davidson dealership. The more than week long Durango Rally really heats up Labor Day weekend with a series of benefits, free entertainment and free demo rides.
Western Shootout- Strater Hotel
Friday, Sept 1 & Monday, Sept 4
There’s nothing that feels like the Wild West quite like an old-fashioned western shootout. The good news is, of course, this one is just a reenactment. Head to the historic Strater Hotel in Downtown Durango on Friday or Monday evening. The event lasts about a half-hour, and you’ll find in right in front of the hotel at Main and 7th Street.
Durango Farmers Market
Saturday, Sept 2
Start the day right on Saturday morning with a visit to the Durango Farmers Market. The weekly event is a chance for area gardeners, ranchers and farmers to sell their goods, plus consumers to experience some of the freshest local produce in the area.
Durango Nature Center
Saturday, Sept 2
When you’ve wrapped up your purchases, head to the Durango Nature Center for a day of fun. With 100+ acres of outdoor recreation, the nature center is a fantastic place to have a picnic, go on a bird walk or simply hike your way through the natural setting. The Durango Nature Center is open to the public each Saturday through October for a small cost.
Durango Brew Train- Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad
Saturday, Sept 2
If you want to experience the beauty of the area while sipping your way through some of the region’s premiere brewers, you can do that too by hopping aboard the Durango Brew Train. The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is taking those 21 and older to Cascade Canyon for a picnic lunch along with beer tasting and some live music.
The Legend of Danny Boy- Henry Strater Theatre at Strater Hotel
Sunday, Sept 3
On Sunday head back to the Strater Hotel for a showing of The Legend of Danny Boy. A tale about old west mining, the show brings the well-known Irish song to stage in an adaption of a true story. The family-friendly show runs through the end of September.
